DIY climbing stick aider

3 stick method that gets you to around 25’. Top of stick in video is at 8’. Self retracting, comes off of the step by itself because of the bungee cord. Lightweight and packable. Easier to use in the dark because the point of contact is near your hip and not your foot

Smartest thing I have seen in a long time. I made some today. Will try them tomorrow. I modded this design by making a full loop out of the ratchet strap by running the tag end back through the eye of the hook, leaving about 8" of tag end running through, then tied an overhand knot at the base of the hook eye locking all three layers of strap together. Put a 1" piece of rubber hose above the foot loop that slides up and down to tighten the loop to your foot. Also added an 8" piece of hose to the bottom of the loop to make it easier to get your foot in and also protect strap from getting cut by the tree steps. Thanks for the bungee idea. That is a game changer.

Guys....all he did is take two ratchet straps and on the end opposite of the hook he tied a loop for your foot to go into then the other end that has the hook has a small piece of bungee cord that attaches to the other one for your other foot and it runs threw your lineman belt loops, now the hooks are “free floating” and you raise your foot and place the hook on your step then when you apply your weight on the strap (inside the loop) you repeat the process for the top step then just do it over and over .... reverse procedure on the way down. Pretty simple idea and easy to to. Hopefully this helps you out

the only problem i have with that is it wouldn't work with the wild edge steps i have good idea for sticks though

Thats a pretty sweet way to climb. Do you just leave them on while hunting? Or do you take them off, then put it back on before coming down?
