For caulk on wood removal i use a scraper. A very sharp one, there in a triangle with a handle. But this is also very good, and less chance of scratches. I'll try. Thnx again!

2.5 inch beater chisel is my weapon of choice backed up with my 600g diamond plate that's hot glued to the top of my tool box. I slightly round the two corners of the chisel to prevent it digging in. This is also my fave tool for trimming edging.

Just added that Red thingy to my Amazon cart. It keeps popping up in your video and it looks super handy.

Questions...
1. How can I remove caulking on trim without damaging the wall or removing the trim? I am restoring some nice stained wood trim but the previous owners caulked sloppily with a bright white caulk. I can do pretty much everything while they are on the wall - repair, sand, stain, varnish, etc. but removing the caulking is tough without damaging something (I'm trying to use an exacto knife and a flathead screwdriver...)

2. Once I remove it, what's the best way to caulk stained wood trim? Should it be wood colored (to match the stained wood?) or paintable and match the wall paint?

Good video. If your casing is glued down, like mine, a heat gun and patience may be needed to get the two pieces to separate without damage. Drywall knife and small prybar helped too.

I don't have one of those little red bars. Now I feel like I need one!

Also effective: hacksaw blades, metal rulers, the clip of a tapemeasure, hardwood wedges.

This is a timely video for me, as I am just about to replace my door trim. You mention that you should go with wider trim. How do you deal with the baseboards being too "long" when you add wider trim? I don't want to have to re-cut those to fit the new door trim. Thanks!

!! So glad you made this video! Almost done with my kitchen (by ‘almost’ mean I’m like 60% done LOL yet I’m side eyeing other projects!) New door trim will be next for sure!

Is it ok to cut out a small like 1 or 2" length of caulking (moldy part) and recaulk over that small area or do you have to recaulk the whole area?
It's in a shower. I don't know how well the new caulk will stick to the old.
