Dorothy Dandridge's version of "Summertime" is by far the best version. Yes you have dozens of professional operatic singers who bust a gut singing and many times the words are lost or garbled, they can't be understood or even heard. Dorothy Dandridge was not an operatic singer just someone who had a great voice the words/lyrics are crystal clear and of course as other have noted she definitely had a gift for hitting those notes! Her life story is a sad one because she was of mixed birth in the 1950s she was treated like shit from blacks and whites and she died way too young that's what racism begets!
