Seriously, for anyone who said they just casted an already beautiful actress to play ugly-to-beautiful girl and that there's no way to become beautiful with just eyebrows pluck etc, have you ever tried to take care of yourself?
I do agree that straightening her hair might be a little too much and offensive for those with natural curls, but it's only to emphasize how she's a geek who never paid attention to beauty. If you looked at her mom's hair, Mia wouldn't have such a big curls if she had regularly took care of her hair. Plucking eyebrows, skin treatment and etiquette class were to make her presentable for formal event as a royal. They're necessary for an heir of a kingdom.
Anyone can be beautiful or handsome if they tried, even without plastic surgery. Some might need to try harder, but it's not impossible. Even small thing like fixing your hunchback can change people's impression of you in a matter of second.
