let's go sucker FISHING!

For me, February has been a slow month from a fishing perspective. Pretty much everything I tried didn't work as planned. Tired of this, I turned my attention to a day of fishing for a species of fish that a lot of people wouldn't think much about. Despite being a pretty cool fish, White Suckers (Catostomus commersonii) don't get the interest they deserve. This is a native species in Pennsylvania that plays several important roles in the creeks and rivers in which it is found. As an added bonus, they remain fairly active in cold water.

In this episode, I headed to a creek in my area to go fishing for suckers in late-February. Although the fishing could have been better, it didn't suck. Or did it? You be the judge. Thanks for watching!

they bite real light when the water is cold. sometimes you don't even know they are on. when the water gets a little warmer that will change. in southern michigan that will be around march 20. if you can fish on a stream that comes off one of the great lakes you will catch many. they are fun to catch.

Looks like you found a good spot. Sounds like trout are on your “shit list” this month. 😅
