I love these scenes with the tribe. It’s great storytelling even though we don’t understand them, the context clues are enough. I was wondering for a few years what the meaning of the black paint was in them but I just thought of this: It’s to make them look like adults or like they have hair growing in those areas painted. They’re all kids and probably thinking whatever’s at the ship is hostile so they might have to fight and they think that’s for adults. They even put the lines of paint going down their faces where a beard goes and foreshadows Cassian’s beard lol.
