My exam tactic was always to start on the essay question first, then work backwards to; long answers, short answers, multiple choice, and then true/false. this is so that i can finish the essay question while i'm still fresh, then finish on true/false when i'm nearly spent. Bonus: sometimes, the answers for earlier questions were hidden in later questions.
