I feel like Hade’s obviously just wanted the best for her, and to be a banished villian in the Isle of The Lost, not to mention the daughter of MALEFICENT, being ‘soft’ is the last thing she would need as she’s gonna have trouble and issues coming her way, so he just needed her to be tough so she would be safe, so he was caring for her in his own, slightly twisted way. Like when he says, “It ain’t easy to neglect!” Clearly states he never wanted to ignore or neglect her and it pained him to do so, and was very hard and difficult to do. Like had to work on it because it hurt him. He always wanted to be a loving father for Mal and be there, but he just did “what he had to do.” Which was keeping his daughter safe. It was clearly a very hard and painful decision he had no choice but to make. He’s iconic and a great dad, and I love how he genuinely tried to change and be a better person and dad for Mal at the end, like he actually tried. He was like, “How about we ditch this place and we’ll spend some time??” Like he wanted to spend time with her and get to know her and make things right. And “How about you show me the town” LIKE HE’S SO CUTE AND SWEET! HES TRYING NOW AND THATS ALL THAT MATTERS.
