Is the AMD FX 8350 Still Relevant?

If you currently have an AMD FX 8350, should you be upgrading it now, or should you upgrade your GPU? Should you consider buying an 8350 for a low-budget build now? Watch on for my take.

Agreed. I have an FX-8350/GTX 970 SLI rig. I am constantly shopping for my upgrade path, because I know it won't be too long until it becomes necessary. However, it meets my needs right now, so I have the luxury of waiting until Ryzen shakes out the bugs and possible intel price drops. Would I recommend an 8350 for a new build? No, but if people already have one, there is no rush to upgrade if they are only gaming at 1080p. I figure it has another 2 years of life left in it. I have it OC to 4.4GHz on air (Zalman 9900 D/F). It bumps the temp limit on 95prime, but it tops out @ 50C when gaming. It's quiet, reliable, and plays every game I throw at it. I feel the upgrade fever, but I don't feel rushed.

I have seen AMD FX 8350, in the U.K. for £92 along with a FX Gigabyte M.B. for £ 55 less than 150£ for board and CPU can't be bad

I just recently acquired a 8350 and Asus formula v board for £140 and for gta v I got

max: 90
avg: 62
with a rx 460 4gb lol

Lets just OC the 4790K but leave the 8350 stock cause that seems fair... Lol lets see what happens when you OC the 8350 to 5.1 which can be done no problem given cooling. At the same time nobody should buy the 8350 because the upgrade path is dead but if you have it and want to start buying your upgrades for the upcoming build you can buy that new nvidia gpu and run it until you have funds for the rest of the pc.

Whoa whoa whoa... At the end you said that 1440p gamers should upgrade? At higher resolutions, the games become more GPU bottle necked, so the fx 8350 would perform even more similar to i5s/i7s. Same goes for 4k. The fx 8350 is fine for all resolutions, but if you want to go 144hz you might need something more.

I have mine clocked to 4.7 and works great for all the games and video editing that I do.

I can stream battleground on my 8350(paired with my 8gb RX 480) but everything has to be on very low. 30-40fps average And my CPU temp sits around 70-83c the whole time even with my Cryorig H7. I'm thinking about investing in a 1600 or 1700 before the year is up. Would it be a better bet saving for a 1070 and running my 8350 till it dies

i got an idea: why not compare fx with the 2 xeons in server just to see how bad is fx.
