Most of these rules were put in place years ago. But now they're working with Airbnb to make sure they're using the city's verification system.

In order to collect fees associated with the short-term stays, Airbnb, Vrbo, Booking.com and other companies must check that a host’s registration application has been approved.

Rules:
* Host must live on the property.
* For reservations less than 30 days, the host must be present.
* No more than two guests at a time.

Should probably do something about all the huge property companies buying up all the single family homes and then renting them out for 2x what they're worth cause they bought everything for people to live in.

It's so hard being a landlord. what am I supposed to do with all these assets, sell them?

If you have enough money to own multiple apartments in NYC, you officially no longer have real world problems.

I’m ok with this, however, is the government also going to limit the amount of properties BlackRock, vanguard and state street own? Probably not.

“Your rent is now 3400$ for a 300sqft studio”
Landlords really are scumbags

Imagine if we taxed landlords more based on how many properties they buy. Statistically, it would mean more people have access to affordable housing when the rich can't as easily bulk-buy and chip off pieces to rent indefinitely. It wouldn't have to be a lot, but it would have to keep increasing indefinitely until the value of having over a dozen houses specifically for rentals isn't worth it. These kinds of anti-monopoly laws are how we maintain the middle class instead of growing the rich/poor gap.

On one hand this is a good idea, on the other hand I’d rather have the apartments owned by landlords rather than the large corporations that bought up whole neighborhoods just to artificially keep prices up

You own multiple apartments in New York? Yeah, my sympathy for your rich people problems just died.

I have literally zero sympathy for slumlords. I truly hope they lose everything and are homes less and destitute for the rest of their pathetic lives.

They can't land grab like they are in Maui so this is an adjusted version for a large city.

Won’t somebody PLEASE think of the landlords?

Love how this only effects the smaller landlords and smaller scale hotel chains, this will do nothing to the larger corporations that would love to buy em masse all the open properties that people will no longer be able to afford, turn them around and rent them out for 2x what they are going for now.

I wonder how many landlords knew as kids that they'd be the bad guy when they grew up
