I used to have the one released in the early to mid 90s. The secret mission cards were released in that version as a variant rule set. Instead of conquering the whole board, you won by completing the secret mission.
I too can't shake the feeling there are less territories in Asia. Same goes for the armies, though it's likely because they changed some of the colors for ease of access and (possible) social reasons. I imagine having black and brown armies could be considered bad optics these days.

I have my version from 1989 which I enjoy playing as Risk is one of my favorites. It’s kind of sad how they’ve cheapened some games while raising the price. I think I paid maybe $15 in 1989 for Risk. I’m hoping to get the 1959 retro version from Winning Moves soon. Sounds like you play the same version I do 😎
