In 1992 I flew from San Diego to Denver on a three engined jet ( either a DC10 OR MD11, think was a DC 10) that only had 10 other passengers on it. They apparently landed at San Diego from an international flight and went on to Denver for maintenance and crew change etc. but you know the airlines, if they can make some money they will.
It was fun and terrifying as hell. One of the attendants sat with me and explained the pilot flew A-10s with some air national guard unit and loved these almost empty light fuel load flights. That big bird Pushed me back into my seat on take off and when we hit our assigned altitude he leveled off and we actually got some hang time, like on a rollercoaster!! Was the coolest experience I ever had on a plane.
