I used to work in a bakery and I'd say about half the time someone ordered a gender reveal cake, they didn't know beforehand. They brought an envelop from the doctor's office and handed it to us to open. I had a girl actually ruin a gender reveal once because she confirmed the client's order, "a 6" vanilla cake with white buttercream exterior and blue filling" and the family wasn't supposed to know before the cutting
