The woman who popularized gender reveal parties had many miscarriages. Getting far enough along in a viable pregnancy to be able to determine the baby's gender was a big deal.

Funnily enough, the child whose birth was celebrated by a girly pink cake grew up to be a tomboy.

She said she regrets popularizing this tradition, after mass destruction of property, wildfires, serious injuries and death havd resulted from people too concerned with whether or not they could, they didn't think whether or not they should.

As a non-American this feels very cringey culturally. Not because of the fails, but because this tradition actually seems artificial and hollow. Another reason to consume and unnecessarily make a big show-off event to establish your status in this capitalist society. I see these people as blind victims of the consumer market, falling into big expensive parties for their wedding or gender reveal, spending money they don't really have. Save that money to provide education, health, and a good family background for your kids!
