Operation Market and Operation Garden. 17 Sept. 1944. Market was the dropping of the Airborne. Garden was the ground forces linking up with the Airborne. It was about half way successful. The 2nd US Army reached the positions held by the 101st Airborne Division after 72 days. They and the limey XXX(30th) Corps were unable to advance very much farther. George E. Koskimaki's "Hell's Highway" is a great telling of it.
