Is a 5700X3D upgrade really worth it? Given the immense popularity of the AM4 platform, and RTX 3060, it’s a question I see a lot, so in this video, the next in our "Is It Worth It?" upgrade series, we are going to find out. Our "Is It Worth It?" series is focused on showing you just how much you can expect to increase the performance of your system with a drop-in upgrade. For this video our focus will be on upgrading an AM4 based Skytech prebuilt PC with a Ryzen 5 3600X CPU and an RTX 3060 GPU, the most popular current generation gaming GPU according to Steam.

In addition to showing you benchmarks across 17 games, I am also going to share with you some pro tips on how to properly prepare your system for an upgrade. And if you stick around, I will also show you how to lower your temps and increase performance by undervolting your AM4 CPU, something every AMD owner should know how to do.

Remember, it's not rocket science, it's Lego … my goal is to help you make the right component choices and put them together the right way, every time.

Your level of quality info is second to none.
Puts all the so called big channels to shame.
Keep up the good work.

5700x3D is 100% worth every cent over an 3600x. Two additional cores for multitasking, around 20 % better ipc and in gaming drastically better 1% lows and better average framerate overall. Compared to a whole new am5 setup it's a cheap upgrade for 150 bucks

Hi and Welcome back, my brother upgraded his gpu last year from the rx 570 8GB to the 6750XT 12GB but the CPU was the r5 2600 so I upgraded it to the r5 5600 and the gpu performance went up by almost 50%. nice video

I think the cpu made the biggest difference in improved performance here. The 4060ti isn't actually too much better than the 3060. In a real world situation like this i would say it's only worth the jump in performance if you go for a 4070 or above

I love using my Head-Light flashlight when working with my computer.

Good video. Perhaps do a follow up video where you swap the video cards to see which is the bigger upgrade, the video card or the cpu at the 3 resolutions: 1080p, 1440p & 4k.

Having had a Ryzen 7 5800X3D for almost two years now, I can safely say that it is DEFINITELY worth it! I have absolutely NO compulsions to upgrade to AM5 and I by the time I really am ready to upgrade, it will most likely be an upgrade to AM6.

i still use the 3600x with an 6800xt on a 32:9 setup = 3600x is a legend, cheap and still powerful

Few days into my upgrade from a 3600 to a 5700x3d. I also upgraded from 16 to 32 gb of RAM (ddr4 3600). Everything else is the same system I built 5 years ago.

2070 Super

I was looking at building a new pc and found out about this CPU. The upgrade so far in the game I play which are mostly CPU demanding competitive games eg fortnite, rocket league and CS my frame rates have more than doubled and the stuttering is gone.

The old cpu got good frames but would drop fairly often, this new one, even with a fairly old and weak GPU is a great upgrade.

This will probably mean I won’t really need to upgrade for a couple more years.

I haven’t had a lot of time to test it yet but for 1080p competitive games it’s very good so far.

Hi! quick question, I game at 1080p on a 144hz monitor, i mainly play competitive shooters (Rainbow Six in particular). My old PC, which I used for 4 and a half years, had a Ryzen 5 3600 and a GTX1660 Super which was enough to run R6 in 1080p at 144 fps. But it was time to upgrade my PC so I bought a Ryzen 7 5700X3D and a used RTX 3090 (I bought it for $550 and did Furmark and super position test before buying it and everything was perfect). Now I run R6 at 550 fps on low settings and 430 fps with my personal settings, im also planning on buying a 240hz monitor since my PC can handle that kind of performance with ease. Did i make the right call? Take into account that im form Argentina where the stock is extremly limited and prices are way too high. For reference a RTX 4070 Ti Super (which was the one i was considering buying) costs a bit over $1000 here in Argetnina, so buying a used 3090 for half that price made sense to me. Here everything costs around 60% more than it does in the US. In total i spent a bit over $1200 for this upgrade, i upgraded every component form my old PC except for my motherboard (Asus tuf B550-Plus) and RAM (16gb 3000mhz cl16). Thanks!

I swapped a 5800x for a 5700x3d and kept for now my 6600xt. Even with that the upgrade feels significant in terms of smoothness at 1080p.

Very nice upgrades. I noticed that there is either a poster or maybe a desktop wall paper of the SR-71A BlackBird. My all time favorite plane. I have a SR-71A BlackBird picture as my desktop wallpaper. So much of the tecgnology and engineering that was needed to make the BlackBirds is now incorporated into newer planes. :) I have a alternate " nick-name " for the SR-71's ; I call it the { DAGGER } since it slices through the air and even has a dagger like shape.

These days I spent some time fiddling with my desktop and I discover that my R7 2700X and GTX 1650S can still give me locked 4k30 and locked 1080p60 in CP2077. Provided I can live with low settings.
I was thinking about getting a used RX6600 for under 200 euros, but I'm not sure it is worth it quite honestly. I guess I didn't find a game I want to play on my PC that is a problem for me, yet. I also really want the PS5 Pro, so I'll save for that one and we'll see what the future holds!

Cheers mate.

just upgraded from ryzen 5 3600 rx 5700xt to ryzen 7 5700x3d rx 7900 xt. yeah... every game i've tried so far is playable at max settings 1440p over 60 fps, usually WAY over 60 fps. I knew it would be a great upgrade, but I never expected it would be able to eat games at max settings like this. zero reason for me to upgrade beyond AM4 for a long long time.

It is absolutely worth it. I went a little higher with a 5800X3D but I got it for $300 on sale last spring. I went from a 3700x and an RX 580 to the 5800X3D and an RX 6800. I am set for 3-5 years to be honest. I am getting up there in age and I am losing my desire to game mainly because games have changed for the worse. I am playing mostly older games and the rig I have will play them forever. I may be retiring.

I'm packing a 5600 and a 3060. I'd like a significantly stronger GPU for 1440p gaming some time this year but it seems like a tossup on what to do as far as upgrading the rest of the system. I'm honestly tempted to just get a GPU that is starting to be bottlenecked by the CPU and just leave it at that. Doesn't seem like spending several hundred more dollars on top of it will be worth it to squeeze the last ounce of performance be it staying on AM4 or going AM5.

I recently purchased a Newegg combo with this CPU and a nice MSI MPG B550 mobo, saved about 100$, plus they through in a 1TB NVME SSD for free! 😁

For how cheap it is? yeah it's worth it.
I had like $650 to build a machine.
Bought a 5700x3d for 160, a MB for $55, and ram for $30.
i was able to put that extra money towards a better gpu :)
