After my first attempt to grow bismuth crystals I had some luck, in this episode I have new equipment to help me grow better Bismuth crystals. I think you might find this quite relaxing so sit back and enjoy!

Love it, your metalwork videos are always fun to watch, this is mesmerising, the shapes are awesome

3:19 imagine you mistake the metal as the aluminum foil and reach out to grab it

ooo shiny!! its always fun melting stuff down and seeing how it reacts.

Man, my jaw is still on my lap from the first bismuth video, can't wait to see the next one, this stuff is amazing!

The second one I actually liked it’s like the towers are falling

You need a deeper pot. Like 12 inches deep. They grow from the bottom up. Check to see if they are growing, then dump out into another pot leaving the formations in the 1st pot.

you have to allow the metal to cool as slowly as possible without interfering with it. You can plant a seed crystal, but you have to leave it to cool slowly without messing with it/.

If it needs to cool down really slowly, maybe step the hotplate down over time, rather than turn it off and hope residual heat is enough? Idk I'm not a bismuth-er, just an idea!

I wonder if you can shape the crystals into specific shapes? I think a clock with bismuth crystal numbers would be awesome.

Aluminum is extremely thermally conductive. We actually use it in the welding industry to suck heat away from metal while welding. It’s doing the opposite of insulating, it’s rapidly pulling the heat away. Regular old fibreglass insulation should be able to handle this heat, I think.

One big mess but

Is so mad seeing the shapes I think of as manmade happening naturally! :-)

It's just mind blowing so cool 🤯👍

Do you have any suggestions how to get the bismuth back from all the oxides after multiple cycles of melting?

Perhaps your containers need to be taller and narrower. It wouldn’t cool as fast and it would have more room to crystallize down.

What about adding vibration to the equation as it's cooling to agitate the crystals?

Anyone know where to get this at a good price/in quantity?

Is that the worlds smallest pan or the biggest hot plate? Lol.
