The pandemic caused a significant disruption in learning, and schools are still trying to help students catch up. A recent research report from Stanford University this year, The Educational Opportunity Project, also known as the Education Recovery Scorecard, reports mixed results. In the 2022-2023 school year, elementary and middle school students made larger than expected gains as reflected in standardized tests in math and reading, but the gap between students from wealthy and poor communities has only widened. This session will engage the primary researchers of the report to share their insights on the data and implications for academic recovery going forward, along with superintendents from districts that have made significant academic gains last school year, including Philadelphia, to discuss their strategies and advice for other districts and anyone seeking to help their students continue academic recovery.
