Héctor Elizondo pays tribute to Julie Andrews at the 48th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala Tribute on June 9, 2022 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. THE 48TH AFI LIFE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: A TRIBUTE TO JULIE ANDREWS aired on TNT on June 16, 2022.

Other presenters at the event included Carol Burnett, Steve Carell, Bo Derek, Cynthia Erivo, Jane Seymour, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Brandi Burkhardt and cast members from THE SOUND OF MUSIC – Angela Cartwright, Duane Chase, Nicholas Hammond, Kym Karath and Debbie Turner.

I was honored to have a private audience with the wonderful Dame Julie Andrews at UCLA where I interviewed her and sang for her. I was 15 at the time. She was so warm and kind and as Hector says here - incredibly gracious. She was there that day primarily to promote one of her new children's books and when her manager wanted to discuss the day's schedule with her, they asked everyone to leave the room, but she took hold of my hand and had me sit back down, "Renee, you can stay", she said. Even just to have heard her speak my name is an honor I can't describe. Thank you Julie for everything you have given to me and to the whole world.
