One of the hardest steps for a lot of people going plant based is giving up the dairy. We used to always go to the store and get a carton of almond milk, which is fine and WAY better than picking up a gallon of dairy milk. But one thing that we didn't like was all of the ingredients that were added into the store bought plant based milks (but still way better than the hormones and cancer causing compounds found in dairy). So we started making our own cashew milk. And over time I have got it down to the most basic form so that we can make whenever and wherever we want.

Here's the recipe!

Ingredients:

-32 ounces of water
-3 tbs of cashews (soaked in water overnight)
-1/2 tsp of vanilla extract

Thanks for the reminder how easy homemade plant milk is and you can reduce waste from buying packaged milk too. Pumpkin seed milk is also good.

This looked super easy. I always thought you needed to have a nut bag to strain the blended liquid through to take out any un-blended nut pieces. This is so much easier and less messy!

Thank you for this recipe, I made it today and it was super easy and cost effective. I made almond milk a long time ago but it was very time consuming and ended up costing me more than just buying it off the shelf.

And most of all there is no need to strain it! It was delicious, maybe 1-2 dates can be added for sweetness.

Do you rinse the soaked cashews before you add to the blender? Or do you use the soaked cashews along with the water they were soaking in?

Is this a lot cheaper than store bought? Certainly seems greener, since you don't need the cartons. :)

This Cashew Milk will be good in the fridge for around a week, but we normally go through this 32oz jar twice a week. So the night before I know I am going to need new cashew milk I start soaking my cashews.

You don't strain it? Like for almond milk & oat milk I do. But, I have never made cashew or pistachio milk; they are my next to try on my list.

Not many cashews in there...only 3 tbs to 1 liter of water.
