EXPANSION: Urban Meyer Warns New Teams to be Ready for Big Ten!

Former Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer is warning new Big Ten teams they better be ready for the rigors of a college football schedule full of physical teams every single week. That is life in the Big Ten and it might be different from what they are used to in the defunct PAC-12. We agree with Meyer and his assessment but if you click here we make a pretty good case that several of the new west coast teams are built for Big Ten play. In fact, a couple teams may surprise some people this college football season with their ability to play a physical style of football!

BAD NEWS FOR RUTGERS
Post this one to bad timing and tough luck. Rutgers 64-year-old athletic director Pat Hobbs is stepping down after 9 years on the job. He hinted at health issues in his resignation letters. The Rutgers football program is coming off a 7 win season and its men's basketball team has made the NCAA Tournament a couple of times on his watch. He was good at hiring good coaches who bought into the Rutgers culture. He was the longest tenured athletic director in the Big Ten, and stepping down just days before the start of the college football season is not ideal for anyone.

NOW WHAT AT OHIO STATE?
Now that Ryan Day has named Will Howard as the Ohio State starting quarterback, what about the future of Devin Brown who has been edged out by two different quarterbacks two seasons in a row? Plus 5-star freshman Julian Sayin is nipping at his heals. It is a fair question. We may have an answer.

13 of the Big Ten's 18 starting quarterbacks are on the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watch list. Tune in to find out who is on the list and who is not!

INJURIES AND RECRUITING
Plus we have the latest injury news out of the Nebraska football and Illinois football camps and recruiting news all around.

And finally, we post out Top Ten Big Ten observations from the weekend. You will not want to miss this list! It is all here on Locked on Big 10 with Craig Shemon!

As a Big Ten fan, I am thrilled that we will no longer have cupcake schedules. There’s blood in the water, and the sharks are swimming.

Buckeyes fan here, I think these four teams joining the conference is going to be exciting! I have respect for all four teams and look forward to the head to head matchups. Going to be tough going to Oregon October 12th! These two teams are both loaded!

I think Urban is right the PAC 12 has never seen such a crappy offense like Iowa.

Everyone’s schedules will be significantly tougher this isn’t like Maryland and Rutger where they brought in bottom tier teams. The four PAC-12 teams are much more like when Penn. St. joined.

No one from the pac 12 is saying it wont be an adjustment. This is the media creating false expectations.

4 claws up here! Happy we finally get at least a shot at some of these teams! Big 10 is definitely good but will see how it all stacks up against probably the 4 vest teams from Pac 12....like the show

BG10 fans are all going to cry and be in a daze when Oregon and USC are playing in the conference championship game. Fight On! ✌️

Seriously, I've been watching B1G football since 1968 and other than UM and tOSU, the rest of the conference is nothing special. Oregon and USC should have winning records this season and maybe the Huskies.

Both the old guard and new will have to adjust for sure.

We expect the Big 10 to introduce Pac-12 teams how to tough, smash-mouth football week in and week out. We expect the Pac-12 teams to bring offensive excitement to the league. The hybrid combo could be a nightmare for the SEC.

Oregon is beyond ready across the board. Thanks for the warning though. USC will survive. UW and UCLA will indeed struggle but that's just because they have to rebuild so much this year, including new coaches.

I don’t think the big 10 is ready for offenses like Oregon and USC.

Oregon’s record against Big Ten teams in the last 10 years about a solid as it gets

The former Big10 was always overrated. And the Pac12 was highly underappreciated.

Its amazing to me how many of you think these new pac12 teams don't play in snow and cold weather. They play in Pullman, Colorado, and Utah every year. Lmao

tOSU and UM will likely be still dominant if the B1G still exists in 20 years.
I'm not a fan of either, but there is something eternal about them in their home conference.
PSU and Nebraska were both classic powers and they haven't been able to dethrone those 2.
People talk up Oregon, but USC is the one with a long-term history and the most likely one that could join the big 2 given time.

Last year Michigan was an example of how Big 10 teams grind down defenses. You better have a solid 6-8 starting defensive linemen to rotate them to keep them fresh.

In truth they should both get ready for each other. The top teams will continue to be so, as well as the bottom teams, respectfully speaking.

We have a warning for the B1G as well - goes both ways ✌🏾🤷🏾‍♂
