My grandmother used to sing this to my little cousin Danny. He was born with many challenges. He was supposed to only survive until the age of 5 years. He passed at age 41. I love you, Danny-boy, today and forever

That was so hauntingly beautiful. I've always loved Danny Boy. The pipes have such a unique sound like none other. Thanks to the Scots.

This was my dads all time favourite song. He passed alway 36 years ago and still it moves me. He had one of the worst childhoods, growing up with a stepfather since the age of 2. A wicked man who whipped my dad daily. When my dad was 16, he ran alway from home, where soldiers.hid him on a train from Joburg to Cape Town. To cut a long story short, he married my mother, the most beautiful, kindest, sweetest woman. They had 8 children. We grew up in a happy home, and all 8 of us knew we were loved unconditionally .

Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side.
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling,
It's you, it's you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow,
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow,
It's I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow,
Oh, Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so!

I had the privilege to go to the annual Rio Grande valley FFMA memorial service yesterday, after amazing grace was played on the pipes, one of the men played this song as the families were led out by officers from the respective departments. This song was the one that almost brought me to tears during the service, and if I ever learn how to play the pipes, I've decided to learn this song first.

Reading the Journal passed down from my great grandmother that came to the States form Ireland, she talks about the N.I.N.A. signs posted upon her arrivals and mentions hearing the song “Danny Boy” that gave her hope. Long live the Irish!
