Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence (Rare World Trade Center Music Video) WTC RAW

In 1990, a promotional video for “Enjoy the Silence” was shot by French TV (for the TV Show “Champs-Élysées” with Michel Drucker) with Depeche Mode lip-syncing the song while standing atop the World Trade Center at the WTC rooftop World observatory.

In the aftermath of the September 11th attacks, in which the towers were destroyed, this video gained special significance among New Yorkers and others as, now, functioning as an elegant tribute to the victims.

The Twin Towers of the world trade center were incredible to look at. So massive in scale, and commanding in the New York City skyline

There’s something about the tone of the song mixed with the visuals that just gives me a sad feeling.

This time of the year sincerely saddens me. I lived in Jersey facing NYC, and I saw the WTC built, and every other day I would ride my bike weather permitting of course to watch the progress of the construction of these iconic towers 4 yrs I watched it on and off this massive construction..and in less then an hour they came down like crippled humble giants...not to mentioned the lives destroyed, and that is another huge chapter all in itself....Rest in Eternal peace all who died on that day, and comfort to all those families that have to relive this horrible day year after year...

I remember standing on the south tower on the summer of 99', had a good friend who worked in the tower maintanance who died in the mechanical floor at the top of the north tower..

I think of this performance as a hymn. Replacing violence with silence. Very moving.

I'd give anything to stand on top of the south tower..

Hard to think of how this song gives an eery parallel to some of the events from that day. God bless the lives lost and that continue to be lost due to that horrible event.

I remember riding right past the twin towers in 1975 with my family.Gazing up at the sheer majesty of them, commenting to my dad wishing we could go to the top and look over the city.(We were on our way to vacation in DC).This video just brings back that memory.I never knew it existed and discovered it by accident.

I've lived on the west coast my whole life but the Twin Towers have always been my favorite buildings, it's heart breaking that such a mindless act of hatred brought them down along with the loss of so many lives...
