I Built a Dopamine Box

In this episode, I design and build my own device that reminds to complete 6 tasks each day. Each flick on the switch is accompanied by a tiny boost in dopamine. Inspired by @simonegiertz "The Everyday Calendar" but with 6 reminders instead of one.

Learning disparate skills is so underrated. You never know ahead of time how they will play off of and amplify each other, but they always do. Never would have thought Law School + Public Speaking + Videography = YouTube Channel, but here we are.

I feel like this could actually be a really successful product if mass produced

This feels like a very good channel introduction. It shows how much he has learnt in his videos and are used in this video.

I would have done this entire project just to procrastinate about doing something else.

I swear this man knows how to literally do at least 1 thing in every single field

I actually did something similar a few years ago to get out of depression and it is my number 1 weapon against it since.
My daily feelgood-list reads the following:
1. Do something for fitness (30 min)
2. Do something for your body (shower, bath, special cream, you get it)
3. Do something for your mind (read something, solve a puzzle)
4. Do something for your creativity (draw something little in 5 minutes, write something, write down an idea for something new)
5. Do something for your home (clean up, repair something...)
6. Do something for your future self (cook in advance, do something you dont like now instead of tomorrow, allow your future self to sleep 30 minutes longer)

4:17 moments like these made me realize that learning these skills over your life will gradually make doing different projects easier and easier as you increase your skill set. Learning CAD at the time might have been a bit useless, but it has clearly made this project possible. Edit: just realized that was the meaning behind the video lol

Me: "Why would I spend a whole week making a useless box that just has red and green lights?"

Also me: "Where can I get one?"

Thank you Mike Boyd for helping me be more productive in my life. Heres a bit of backstory for people who want to know more. My family of 4 is very unorganized and cramped into a small house the first floor/basement isn't finished so it cuts our square foot down in half. The house is in constant turmoil because no one wants to help out. I decided to start working out after finding your channel and it made me feel better about myself and helped my self esteem. Then the coronavirus happen and I wanted to do something productive I said to myself "ill make my bed every day". And that eventually turned into ill clean my room every day. Now this video came out and I look at his to do list for every day and I replicated it. I have cleaned my house for 30 minutes to an hour every day and that has made my house much cleaner in return. Everyone in my family feels better and is more kind to one another now. Even though I'm the one who is doing the most in the house it has made me feel better not above anyone but grounded like you said in the video. So thank you so much for this video because it has made me more productive as a person and as a contributing member of my household and making my entire family better overall. I wish the best to you and you family.

Why don't you add a speaker and let the sound of the to-do app ring out everytime you operate a switch?

I would suggest a satisfying sound. When an activity is finished.
