It helps when you use the right size of heat shrink to begin with lol! 😂

Use smaller diameter heat shrink tubing, slide in onto the cable _before_ placing the terminal onto the end, _then_ crimp it, and finally shrink the tubing.

Good choice to use the adhesive melt heat shrink.

You've got that 100 to 1 heat shrink i see

You know you can get attachments for the heat gun that makes it easier. There's a hook attachment that gives heat to both sides.

Gotta love adhesive lined heat shrink tubing! Even when it’s being used in a dry location, it provides extra strength, especially on small wires. And it can’t be beat for watertight splices.

That ratcheting cable cutter is awesome trimming trees, cutting branches..

i never thought I'd see the day where an actual electrician is working with wires in one of these vids

I mean, cordless and corded tools just have different applications in the first place. Corded ones are more powerful and can run for hours, but battery powered ones are maneuverable and more practical for field use. And if your heat gun can’t shrink an (admittedly grossly oversized) wrap, then you need to charge it better!

My lights dimmed when you turned the bigger heat gun on 😂

Wish i had all those tools when I installed my amplifiers and upgraded all electrical in my car. One of my amps alone uses two 00g ground and two 00g positive. Add in a 500farad super cap bank and a high output alt... hundreds of dollars just for the power wire. Pushing 9, 000 watt rms. NEED MORE POWER

I know sometimes those jacket strippers are nice, but in a pinch if you have one, try using a small copper pipe cutter. 👍

I usually just use a big propane torch to heat shrink. U just need to be careful not to burn ur cable or heat shrink.

Damn I need that as my sub wire for my car

I have been in NASCAR since 94 and have done it all. Never crimped those lugs. The way we have always done it was to put the flat end in a vice then get the solder and a torch. Heat the terminal so it’s filled up with molten solder and then just stick in the stripped end into the molten solder and we haven’t had a failure in the 29 years I’ve been at it. We use those big lugs for battery cables ground from batt and all the power wires going to the starter solenoid and the wire running from the solenoid to the starter. We don’t have a huge crimping tool at the shop but we always have torches and solder and like the saying goes if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

I like that you melted the cables insulation nice touch!

What is the purpose of the shrink tubing?

I build these for battery systems. The only thing I can add is to solder the connection after crimping and before putting on the heat shrink.
