Yuja’s playing truly sparkles. No matter the circumstance melodies shine as she thinks in terms of musical gestures that transcend bars on the page.

All the great pianists - the ones in the top twenty or so at any given time -- are almost infinitely beyond the ordinary run of musicians, and probably can only be understood fully by the others. So all the know-it-all comparisons and caviling comments on every YouTube offering are pretty silly. No great harm done, obviously. We fans could each name our personal top ten of the past hundred years: why not just be amazed, humbled and, above all, delighted? Yuja is among the wonderful ones, and once we get past the stardom and the joyful sexy stage presence and even the pure pianistic virtuosity, we meet a marvelous musical mind.

I was sure nobody could outdo the great dame Argerich on the Schuman piano concerto but I was wrong. This young lady Yuja Wang has fired up this concerto on all cylinders working running full blast. Her playing makes life come alive with energy and makes Argerich look stodgy. Wang hit all the accents right, built an exciting climax after climax like nobody else in this business. Just sheer exultation. She made this concerto clearer to me. Argerich does it better in the slower passages but Wang does it better in the fast passages. In the slower passages, Argerich shows artistic finesses, while Wang has not grasped the aesthetic of the piece fully so reverted to her own personal ideas. But then in the fast passage, Wang rode the winning horse, leaving Argerich way behind in the dust. Those Wang trills are amazing. Spot on. This girl is marvellous.

Emphatic piano intro, Ms Wang shows how.
The music of Schumann conveys a core emotion - the hurt of a sobbing child, a deep yearning, a never let go hug

I was hearing the first and second movements and thought her playing was nice but wasn't as out of the world spectacular as Lester Lester described below, then I heard the last movement and... just.. wow. I don't believe I've ever heard a more exciting, excuse me, exhilarating third movement of this concerto.

I am a big fan of Yuja Wang and I believe that after some time she will play this concerto even
better. I particularly don´t like her rubatos and a few other details here . It lacks the smoothness of Lipatti-Karajan version. This is probably her first reading of this concerto and I am sure she will do better later on - it is still too fresh. I remember her first recording of Brahms No. 1, also too fresh. And what a change in her last performance with Gergiev/Münchner Philh. !

Magnifiquement interprété ! Bravo ! Dommage que le chef d'orchestre n'était pas à la hauteur de la soliste.

This recording would benefit by a better dynamic balance between piano and orchestra. The orchestra is consistently much louder than the piano. Also, Yuja Wang sounds uncharacteristically tentative in the first two movements. Maybe it's the sound engineering.

the opening theme is strange played from the orchestra, first too slow than to fast, Yuja is great, but there is on YT an better version with Viotti and VSO. She should play more Schumann, Davidsbündlertänze, Kreisleriana, Carneval e.g.
