Canada Post workers have been on the picket lines now for 25 days. Calls for government intervention have grown, but the government has yet to step in, despite intervening in other recent labour disputes.

Canada Post said yesterday that it's waiting for a formal response from CUPW to the proposal it submitted to the union on Friday night as they work to close the gap on key issues that the two sides face.

Some issues include a focus on weekend delivery, pensions and wages to help get people back to work.

The union said it's reviewing what Canada Post put forward and questioned when the mediation process will officially resume. The union also reaffirmed its commitment to returning to the bargaining table.

Federal mediation was paused nearly two weeks ago, as the sides remain far apart.

The local union president says workers are focused on volunteering to help the community including helping get letters to Santa, a food drive and collecting clothes for those experiencing homelessness.

A Union should never ever have that much power in a country to have people's livelihood or merchandise in their hands.

Reputation is already destroyed beyond repair. It doesn't matter at this point

For them to strike at the busiest time of year for people and businesses, thinking that it would force the union's hand to cave in to their ridiculous demands makes me so mad for all the people who had their holiday and businesses ruined.
Shame on the Canada Post workers!! You are the true grinches this Christmas!

This is ridiculous!

They are holding us all hostage and ruining Christmas! My kids are gonna be mighty sad when half their gifts don't come because a bunch of adult sized children wanted more money.

Listen, we are all suffering, but you knew exactly what you were doing when you decided to strike during the holidays.

You'll get zero support from me.

Should all be ashamed of themselves. Couldn’t even wait until after the holidays and ruining Christmas for a lot of people.

Funny how our government will only step in for labor disputes when it effects multinational corporations bottom line, the railways, the dock workers, they got forced back to work. Canada Post only affect Canadians, in our government's eyes, Canadians aren't important enough to force these workers back. The CUPW lost all my respect due to the time frame they decided to go on strike, right before BF, CM and Xmas, they too don't care much for Canadians otherwise they would have went much earlier or in Feb when the hit to the public is easier to swallow.
Oh yes, Canada Post doesn't care if they are loosing money hand over fist, it's a Crown Corporation, us, the tax payers will bail them out as usual! (Screw em, let them fold).

No more sympathy or support, send the greedy people home and hire new people that are willing to work. What they are asking for is outrages!!!

Considering the impacts on rural, remote-community and vulnerable Canadians, the actions of the workers and their "union" should be considered domestic terrorism.

Canada Post owns 91% of Purolator which made over $5 billion last year

Okay it s time for another business to take place, and that can serve local business with fair prices. If canada post can't deliver they need to hand these contracts to someone else

Don't get it twisted. No one is honking in solidarity. Zero support for domestic terrorism. 4 weeks of vulnerable Canadians not able to access their meds or other daily resources because of this gargbage. This false sense of entitlement, this selfishness & greed level is a real disease.

The “new” proposal from the union has a 9% raise in year one +19% overall over four years. 10 bankable medical sick days, 7 leave days. They already have 7 flex days and up to 7 weeks vacation. They also wanted disability payouts to go up from 75% to 80%..

Good to know these are the demands holding small businesses hostage and existing packages they have frozen and inaccessible.

So out of touch with the average Canadian in 2024 (oh and let’s not forget they don’t want to work weekend without OT, OR let Canada Post hire P/T workers for weekends (because who wants to actually keep Canada Post afloat financially right)

Just picked up a package at Canpar, he said they are swamped with new clients… not looking good for Canada Post!

Maybe the corporation should have one vice president instead of 24, maybe the union shouldn’t spend thousands on social justice vacations across the country spending huge amounts of union dues, maybe you do everything you can to remain competitive when you are an archaic business… this place is one big dumpster fire with uneducated unskilled people . From a 20 year employee.

In a normal enterprise, if you are not happy with your salary, you quit and look for another job.
They should close Canada post, fire all the employees and create anotehr company called 'Canada Postal' and hire new people or the same, but with less salary, because they make too much for such crappy work they do.
