Your site has helped me so much. I'm taking baby steps and learning something everyday. Yesterday I learned to turn and I'm feeling more confident on the board each day. Starting at the age of 59 has not held me back. Skating every day.

Aaron does something a lot of other skaters don't when they teach: put themselves in the shoes of the beginner. Aaron's been skating longer than most, but still hasn't forgotten the struggles we all went through, and even better, how we all eventually get through those struggles. Chloe learned super super fast, hope she keeps skating!

Their streets: smooth, nice, gentle
My path streets: rough, badly build, cracks everywhere

I wish I had soft paths like that my streets are rough

It would be really sick if beginner skaters all came together and helped each other learn how to skate 🤙🏻

Dude seriously, the "pretend you're walking with the board" thing works like magic. I was struggling to just keep my balance while pushing; I could do it standing still perfectly but as soon as I tried to push I'd eat pavement. Saw Aaron mention that, tried it out, and IMMEDIATELY clicked in my brain. "OH, I get it!" Same thing with my boyfriend who is also learning with me. We're both in our mid twenties and never got to learn as kids, so this is all new and kinda tricky for us. Aaron is a great teacher and he explains things really well! :)

18 years ago I started skateboarding with no idea how to use it other than what I saw in a few movies! I didn't know skate videos or magazines existed. I love how easy it is to get information now. Kids, don't listen to that 80's and 90's nostalgia crap. We live in a great time right now. Thanks Aaron, I will definitely use this method to teach my kids how to skate!

Using this quarantine time to learn how to skateboard for the first time. Hopefully these tips save me from busting my ass. Rip elbows and knees 🙂

She's a natural. I'm having a hard time just to balance myself on the board.

"It's really important that you practice a good amount of time on each of these steps .. *waits 5 seconds* ok you got that? " xD

Skateboarding is one of those odd sports, people are afraid of "learning too late" or "coming off as a poseur" just by not being good immediately.  How seeing someone learning to skate would compel them to think they're doing it for attention, rather than help them and share the fun is beyond me.  Everyone had to start somewhere, and most of the good riders started off as small children with all the silly looking multi-colored protective gear - I sure did.  Just like riding a bike, really.  If I saw a 20 year old trying to learn how to ride a bike, I wouldn't laugh at them or call them a poseur, I have no idea why anyone would.
I loved skateboarding because I never worked well with team sports.  Skateboarding at its basic sense is individually oriented.  You set your own goals, difficulty is relative, you create your own obstacles, there's no "letting the team down, " it's all about you establishing and mastering your own accomplishments.  For some it's learning to drop in, for others it's jumping a 15 stair set.  There's no end to it either.  If you pitch a no-hitter or bowl a perfect game, there's nowhere else to go form there.  Skateboarding always has you creating and enduring challenges, it only stops when you do.

I feel as though I am one of the few people that want to learn how to skate just to get around places XD
