Problems Vacuum Pumping Refrigerant Lines to the 500 Micron Level for HVAC

In this HVAC Evacuation Video, I go over problems that technicians may run into while trying to pull a 500-micron vacuum. I explain many of the problems with hoses, manifold gauge sets, as well as strategies and hose layouts needed for a proper and thorough vacuum. I also cover problems that I have seen with service valves. Supervision is needed by a licensed HVACR Tech while performing tasks as Experience and Apprenticeship garners Wisdom and Safety.

Adding another ball valve between the vac gauge and the machine allows you to do an immediate vac test on pump, hoses and gauge. Which is a great thumbs up before then vaccing a very large machine that could take hours

God bless from Milwaukee WI, thank you

It also helps to open and close each of the ball valves while it is pumping down. In the short line to the micron gauge, a port full of line pressure will make a BIG difference in the reading.

Very nice! Thank you for a good professional video. Good information especially about having dedicated vacuum rated hoses. I use 1/2” hoses but same set up. This my friend is the future of evacuation. Keep up the good info for our fellow colleagues.

Great tips it drive you crazy. When doing cascade refrigeration we use 1/4 copy tubing on your gauge thats what manufacturer recommends. What l found out having set of vacuum hose only nothing else 3/8 or 1/2 hose refrigerant If you use your daily refrigerant hose there could oil inside refrigerant hose that what l do have set only for evacuation only no charging only use on evacuation make sure use correct vacuum oil change every time seal up the ports cap them after using the vacuum pump.If you use yellow vacuum pump use there yellow jacket vacuum oil nothing else off brand would work but give but it might give you trouble or if you use other manufacturers vacuum pump read what type vacuum pump oil they recommend just go supply house pick up some vacuum pump oil is different .

Great video!
Ive experienced the service valve problem also. Especially on a pressure test.

Bluvac pro plus. Appion 1/2" dia 3/8x1/4 hoses and 2 appion core remover tools a little nylog done . Never use 1/4" hoses

Your video's are great. You show a CPS micron gauge in the video but the link you gave for micron gauge is a Supco that gets horrible reviews. Just FYI

Ive pulled a vacuum on this one system now 3 times. It drops to 350 microns and levels off there. After shutting off the pump it rises to 510 and stays there. How important is that 10 microns above 500?

Im working on a system they I pull a vacuum all the way to 350-410. The pump oil show lot of moisture and burn now is way better and clear. But the problem is that my microm level starts going back u, even with the pump running! above 5000) don’t know what to do! — this system had a compressor burn out and acids. It was flushed and 2 removal filter drier with 2 isolation valves were installed.

You must try the megaflow kit from appeon omg its nice very large hoses cuts time way down. As long as you have a trusted micron gauge!

Are you using one 1/4" hose and one 3/8 or just a bigger hose?

I am having a problem where I am running the vacuum pump, its dropping 500 micron but its basically giving a false reading there is no vacuum at all and when I tried to charge it with gas it just stayed inside the manifold and would not budge. ( no leaks at all have tested all joints and is gas sealed with Refrigerant Leak Prevention Agent

i have a question, what do you do with the refrigerant that’s left inside your hose after disconnecting from the service port?

If it takes forever to get a deep vacuum... use a bigger vacuum hose. Cut our vacuum times from 8hours to about 3

I've heard low loss fittings can effect it also.

Could be that your not using vacuum hoses

How are the vacuum hoses attached to the pump? The pump (at the Amazon link) shows one 1/4" and one 3/8" inch connections. Thank you!

On small fry stuff 500 microns is not necessary. You did your pressure test and it holds your good.
