Don't worry about things you have no control over, you'll be happier.

NASA would never tell us if Apophis is going to hit in 2029!!

If I'm not mistaken, the first reports on Apothis predicted an impact. This was quickly changed to what we're told today. I don't want to sound paranoid, but still, one wonders.

That's the day after my birthday, so hopefully I'll be too hungover to notice 😉🥂🍾🍻🍸

Which is why the loss of Aracibo is such a problem - Aracibo was an asteroid radar: it could image astroid by beaming radar out at space and detecting even small rocks that are invisible to visible light observations.

Well not wanting to start a worldwide panic of course they aren’t telling the whole story.

The name apophis is actually a Stargate reference because the actual gods name is Apep but they changed it for the show and the scientists were fans of SG1.

Because SG1 is the best Sci fi show ever.

Imagine if we all worked together on earth instead of fought petty wars we could be so much more technologically advanced and keep the earth safe from
Asteroids and comets

NASA has a budget to track about 3% of the sky, and beggin your pardon sir, it's a big ass sky.

It may be a good global opportunity for
facing this problem, in order to ease the
current international tensions.

Everyone has forgotten that Apophis was named what it was because of a Stargate SG1 episode where the Goa'uld named Apophis sent an asteroid to hit Earth and SG1 had to save Earth (once again). The episode aired not long before this asteroid was discovered-- and aptly named after the alien in the Stargate TV show.

It's set to pass us less than 20, 000 miles away. Now, think about the DART program. That little impact ended up changing the trajectory of that asteroid by a lot more than expected. Now think about all the little meteors and other space stuff that it could interact with, naturally, over the next 4 years. I'm not trying to instill fear, but 20, 000 miles with 4 years to go...it wouldn't take much for things to change.

Dimorphos was in fact moved significantly more than NASA predicted.

This is great! Humanity finally has a life-or-death reason to advance in space exploration!

I knew it would be bad but 10, 000 MPH wind is SERIOUSLY insane. I can’t even imagine that because that’s a lot faster than sound can move through air.

Can we put rockets on the back of it and speed this up?

I don't need Astronauts, I need drillers!
