Nowadays, some drums fly under the radar because of how many options we have to pick from.

I feel like this sleeper had a little bit to do with the saturation of the market but a lot to do because this company, at the time, was based out of England.

While every drummer in American (in the 1970s) was going head over heels for the Ludwig Supraphonic models, another drum from England sneaks into the fold.

This drum was the Premier 14” x 5.5” COA Snare Drum.

This drum was Premier’s answer to the acclaimed Ludwig Supraphonic model, although they put their touch on it.

This snare drum is light. The lightweight frame has to do with the low profile hoops, single-pointed, light weighted double-ended lugs, thin shell, and lower profile strainer and butt.

However, an advantage I have seen with this snare drum, being from the 1970s, is how well-designed this throw-off is. It’s smooth and holds tension well, even under a heavy hand like mine.

This snare drum is next-level underrated because its USA counterpart goes used for well over $400, and the highest I have seen this one go is $299. Now that’s wild!!!

As you can tell, I couldn’t be happier with this choice and can’t wait to experiment to see what this snare drum can do!!

I would love to hear your thoughts. How do you like this snare drums sound? Does it seem to differ from other aluminum snare drums you have played? Comment below, and let’s talk about it!

200-250 and it's a real banger

I’m a huge fan of Mapex snares. My first snare was a 14x6.5 hammered steel MPX model, and I love it. It’s not my main, but I keep it by kit for when ever I want to change it up a bit. My main snare now is a mid 70’s Ludwig Acrolite that my dad played in Junior High band.

Honestly ANY mapex snare.
I tracked a guy a month ago and his hoops were a full inch off and like an oval and that snare still sounded amazing. With bent hoops and all

Quadura Remo snare, it has a fiberglass shell like the tama Fibes. It also works really well as a concert snare which I use it for.
