In this video we are looking at the Jeep Liberty! Throughout its life, while it had great towing and off-road capabilities, many felt it lacked in other areas like comfort, performance, and refinement. The first gen sold well, but during the second gen sales fell off. I also go over 4 major flaws and reasons that I felt caused this car to be cancelled. Watch along for a full history of this car from introduction in 2002 to its cancellation in 2012!

Bought an 05 new for my wife, still driving the damn thing. Rides like a buckboard, guzzles gas, eats tailiights and headlight bulbs like mentos, but is a complete tank. No other vehicle has survived my wife this long.

I had a Jeep Liberty 08 with 225, 000 miles on it. When I first bought it in 2015 had a little over a 100, 000 on it. Yeah I had a few minor maintenance issues. This Jeep was so durable and so reliable. Even when other vehicles have struck this Jeep. I'll be honest in Indiana on the highways.
I would literally laugh at the ice and snow. I miss that jeep! My son now owns it. God bless and stay safe.

I have a 2012 Jeep Liberty, . At 39, 000 the 6th cylinder went out. Jeep made the repair and it now has 180, 000. Works like a champ.

Hey guys you might see a few small portions of the video blurred out, there were some issues with video footage so I've had to use the YouTube editor to blur them out. Also many of you have pointed out I pronounced “Commanche” and “Dakar” wrong so my apologies!! Hope you still enjoy the video :)

I owned a first gen Liberty and really enjoyed it. I thought it was good looking. It was fairly quick and handled well, very well in the snow with the 4 wheel drive. Amazing turning radius. The cargo room was good considering its small size. I never had any problems with it mechanically. You attribute its failure to the fact that it wasn't boxy enough from the get go, but I disagree. The sales really started to dip when they turned it into an ugly box.

Just got a 2008 Jeep Liberty with 76k miles on it and I love it. It’s a 2nd gen and the engine is pretty peppy and I love how it rides especially with the random snowing weather in Chicago. I upgraded from a 2003 impala and I get a lot of compliments on how nice it looks. I LOVE IT 🥰 Who else like the 2nd gen?

I honestly love the Jeep Liberty. It's great for a small car and has saved my bum several times in the snow/rain. I was really unhappy when I found out that it wasn't being made anymore, and I've been paying a lot more attention to the different kinds of Jeep Liberties (Like the Jet) since I got into cars. I miss it!

Love my 2003 3.7 Sport. 220k miles. Replaced transmission at 80k. Towed heavy load from CA to MA. Back right tailight has needed a lot of bulbs. Water pump, alternator, replaced around 130k.150k for radiator. Tire rod around 180k along with oil pan. Some sensors. Had that power window issue. Front seat is breaking. Says it needs window washing fluid all the time. Cold New England winters near ocean. Parts are cheap. Good mechanic. Should make to 300k easy. Love it. Flaws, recalls, and all.

I have a 2012 series II and I love it, it was badged as a Cherokee in my country. The body design is great, It's taller than a Grand Cherokee, stands out more in a parking lot and looks more like a traditional Jeep. It drives like a car but looks like a tank.

For the record I ordered one of these new in 01 for the wife when she retired from the USPS and we took delivery of it in Oct of 01. We've had it since. The wife and I were dentists. We could and did buy whatever we wanted. I've owned Escalades and Navigators, King Ranch pick ups, Cresidas, FourRunners, LandCruisers, and more always top shelf, always leather no matter what we got.The Escalade bought the same year as the Libby became a squeak and rattle box inside of two years driving. The KJ is just the way it was. My 06 Lincoln had to be parked under a roof whenever it would rain! The thing leaked and no one could ever find it to stop it from day one! Tell me again how bad ass they are! Back to the Escalade, it squeaked everywhere and inside of three years the head liner was falling down on my head! We had to glue it back up there and I almost forgot to mention that.! We traded it and got that leaking as a bonus that came new with the Navigator. Right on the corner of windshield water got in each time it rained even a little! We went and had the windshield replaced and more to stop that drip on the floor of the Navigator. Liked it and kept it 13 years but that is only because after a time I just didn't care and drove it anyway. We sold it too and I have a King Ranch and the Liberty left. The Liberty is our most trusted vehicle.

The KJ Liberty, prelowered due to the age and when we got it (1 inch or so more ground clearance than all after) is just like it was. All the stuff works, including all the controls for the stereo on the steering wheel, and the cruise as well as all the electric stuff. Two window rollers had to be replaced. We got a Limited just the way I wanted it with everything. It's skid plated, has all the traction features offered and after 18 years I have to say it's been a remarkably good rig! No tears in the leather, the interior looks great actually.

And that is standing beside some of the so called nicest vehicles made. I feel like Jeep missed the boat with this model they did that several ways but it is a day late and a dollar short now. Personally I think anyone should look at these in the used market. They are safe relatively. They are not bad in my experience for reliability but seem to suck gas due to the small gas tanks. No one wants them to steal them so the insurance is among the cheapest in used cars. Jeep people don't think they are real jeeps and most men think they are too feminine. Still because of this stuff they are cheap used cars usually with leather and low miles and deals compared to other cars.Zippy, fun, lots of visibility and so maneuverable it's just fun to drive! I recommend the leather if you are going to find one as it has held up so well on ours. I think due to the lighter color. The lighter the leather the better it lasts I guess due to the sun and heat. Anyway, we are senior citizens now and we'll die with the KJ we own in the driveway. It's been that good! I could still go down to any dealer and write a check for anything I wanted but what I look for is a CRD in a 05 in one of these Liberties so go figure!

I have had my 2012 Liberty, or Cherokee as they call it here in Brazil for 3 years now. The most reliable car i ever owned, and a very good offroader it is too.

When a car is redesigned, it's supposed to be improved. But Chrysler doesn't improve their cars and instead cancels them

I like those 1st gens. They could put a modern interior in it and sell it now.

The redesigned Liberty doesn't just look like the Dodge Nitro, it is a Nitro. It's classic rebadging.

Just bought a well taken cared 2004 Jeep Liberty Columbia Edition 4X4 a week ago with 136, 080 miles (219, 000 kms) . Just love everything about her.. especially those round seductive headlamps. Driving her is fun and sporty, and I am amazed on how much cargo space that's available.. Brad frm Vernon B.C. Canada

I am on my SECOND Liberty KK model right now. Both of them purchased with 55k miles on them. The first one was a 2008 that I loved and kept until 150k miles. Knowing that the pool was getting thin, 5 years ago I replaced it with a 2011 Jet model and I love it even more! It now has 118K on it and is going strong. It tows my trailers, moves my cargo and does well in the snow... all for under $10, 000! Pretty hard to beat!

I also like the Liberty when I bought it because it was one of the first vehicles from the factory you could tow on all four Wheels behind your RV. Plus when it was in tow mode it didn't rack up any more miles.

I have the 2012 liberty and I love it. I’ve had it since 2014 and have had very few issues with it. I can say one of the windows does get stuck. And I don’t like the cloth material but it is really easy to clean. It drives excellent in the snow.
