I’m an apple fan myself, but surface despite being slow, you can actually do real computer works with it because of the operating systems unlike iPad with all this power but it can only use as an iPhone. We needed MacOS on the iPad 3 years ago if it’s not longer.

Doesnt matter if they put the m1, m2, m3 or m100 chip in an ipad. As long as it is limited by the ipad os, devices such as the surface pro can still beat it any day.

This is apple's way for you to buy a tablet and laptop

One advantage I see for the Surface is, that it has a mature operating System, meaning it can run full version of Adobe Creative Cloud applications instead of the limited versions available for the iPad...but taht advantage comes short due to the ARM architecture, which limits the available applications again.
I am just hoping that Apple at some point in time will merge iPad OS and MacOS making it possible to run all the pro apps on the iPad as well.

The ARM version of the Surface Pro 9 doesn’t have Thunderbolt, only the intel model

I still use my surface pro 4 from 2015. It works great. I switched to a Lenovo in 2019 but still use the surface for travel and mobility. I also have the iPad Pro. I almost stopped using it after switching to the iPhone pro max.
The form factor of the surface is amazing for work and travel. The iPad is great for media consumption. My Lenovo is a beast but I really don’t like to use it on my lap and gets too hot.
You should have compared the iPad with the Intel surface. Besides the battery and the screen, the surface is way more useful.

Give me an Intel surface with 2 usb c, 1 usb a, 1 SD reader, 1 headphone jack and I’m sold for good.

the Surface Pro 9 definitely has a better mic and video quality. I'm quite surprised. as for speaker quality, kudos for the iPad

Wow I’m an Apple guy myself and have had a surface pro in the past which I actually loved but i was really surprised at how much better the microphone quality sounded when you compared the camera and microphone’s. It sounded really loud and clear i was surprised at how muted the ipad sounded

Windows on ARM has been good since the release of Windows 11. I used to tell people that the main reason to upgrade to Windows 11 is if you have an ARM PC. You can run just about everything except for SQL Server 2019, Dropbox, and probably Google Drive. But OneDrive works, SQL Server 2014 works, and there are lots of natively compiled Microsoft apps for ARM64. Upgrading with a 2230 drive on the Surface is one of the best features.

Tbh I would prefer a comparison with the intel version of the surface pro 9 cause even though Microsoft is putting in the work fo windows in arm to be a viable option it simply isn’t yet

To me the key difference here is versatility and when it comes to that the surface simply kills the ipad in every possible way. Millions of programs, not a closed system, you can connect any device very easily, much better multitasking and so on.

Numbers are just numbers, I love the ratio aspect of the ipad because I read a lot of comic books and it's perfect for that but for pretty much everything else the Surface is better, you have a tablet and you have a real computer. The speakers are great, by the way, just because the iPad's might be better doesn't mean the Surface's are bad, far from it.

Also you're using the ARM version of the Surface, so the comparison is not completely fair as the Intel versions are much better, not to mention the price of the magic keyboard which is ridiculously expensive.

The iPad is an iPad. And the surface is an actual operating system. I own the iPad Pro M1 12.9 and a surface pro 7+. They are comparable, but they can be very different as well.

I'm not sure if this is entirely fair because we know all iPad apps are at least optimized for ARM chips while windows on ARM can be a mixed bag ranging from pretty smooth to terrible or not even being supported. The Intel version of the Surface Pro will be a much better comparison.

A couple things. On the speaker test did you turn on enhanced audio? It comes off by default and it makes a massive difference in sound quality. Also SP9 supports HDR and Dolby Vision, you didn't even turn on HDR in the windows settings. Also your comparing iPad apps vs full x86 applications. It's apples and oranges.

The Magic Keyboard case does cost too much, but one thing I learned from traveling with my old Surface Pro for a couple of years is that the back is entirely unprotected and there aren't a ton of good options to do much about it because of the integrated kickstand. You basically end up using a case case if you don't want it to get scratched up in luggage etc.

It is really frustrating that Apple still isn't making MacOS compatible with iPad Pro. Only reason I'm considering Surface Pro 9 is it runs Windows 11. I don't really care windows or mac, I just want full OS on my tablet.

Personally i would say that it depends on what you want to use your device for. I can't use special programms on the Ipad that i really need. Also i dont need to edit High Quality Photos. Really depends on your Usage

Try and do some typical office worker comparisons such as word processing spreadsheets etc not all of us working in photo and video editing

The M2 chip is a laptop/desktop oriented chip... the SQ3 is purely mobile. A fair comparison would be with an intel core. Even if the architecture is different, the chips are made for specific reasons. Still, very surprised on how far ahead Apple is in ARM chips development.

I had an iPad Pro 1 year ago and I sold it and bought a Macbook. iPads are extremely fast but without MacoS on them, they are basically useless for work. Budget ipads like the ipad air are great tho for notes
