We cannot rely on reason and decency to prevail in a liberal society. There will be some who espouse ideas we find repugnant and wrong. And they are willing to shout them in public in every way available. What is to be done about such ideas and speech? Dr. Hicks looks at these ideas and how to most effectively deal with them.

"Censorship reflects a society's lack of confidence in itself," Potter Stewart, Supreme Court Justice.

For some time, Professor Hicks has been doing a podcast on a wide range of contemporary topics. It has been available on a number of other platforms. It is now being offered on YouTube as well. Its mission is to “ to explain the chaos.”

Stephen R. C. Hicks, Ph.D., is Professor of Philosophy at Rockford University, USA, and has had visiting positions at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., University of Kasimir the Great in Poland, Oxford University’s Harris Manchester College in England, and Jagiellonian University in Poland.

What is this idea that we have to know it all? That seems like Gnosticism to me.
If we take the average human being they are woefully unaware of most history and any philosophy. And I don't think that is a problem. I think focusing on these things is a problem. We're taking people who are incapable of understanding and making them think that they understand these things. Then they start running around creating trouble in the world. Religion has always set ideals in such a way that every layer of society has a way of participating in it. So that they can come together and point at the good. Universities were initially an extension of that. Allowing an elite to engage with things improper to the common man.
The democratization of this information and the removal of the idea of forbidden knowledge is the actual problem. This crazy idea that we somehow can use more knowledge to resolve this is false. These ideologies are not based upon knowledge. They're based upon values. They appeal to parts of our human nature. Rationality is the furthest away from any tool you should use to combat this. Obviously these philosophies are not sound because they are a justification of feelings. They're not an actual attempt to describe reality.
You can only win if you point at the good and start walking. Having faith that people walk with you. These arguments are futile. While I agree we should remain aware the way we should be aware is in experts who can sometimes enter the public domain to educate the people in a way that can be heard.
