Shaping my first twin fin surfboard....

In this video I catch up with The Board Lab to chat about surfboards, surfing, shaping, glassing and a whole bunch more. I'm thrown into the deep end when resident shaper, Alex Crews of ACSOD throws me in the deep end of the shaping bay after tweaking his Two Fangs design (from our twin fin series).

I shaped my own boards. Have done so for the last 30+ years. Do everything shaping glassing sanding, even foil my own fins. Love the entire process. It’s difficult to master and very easy to stuff up. Give hand shaping a go Kale it’s way more difficult then you think. Much respect to the time and effort the guys put into every step. Great video. Oh and btw I ride mostly twin fins and quads. Can’t tell you how important fin placement is on Twins. Great to see Wayne O from the Glass Lab in this video. Absolute champion. Cheers

I've hand shaped my own boards for 30+ years. If I had access to a CNC I'd use it and never look back. Great video🙌

Rad Kale, and mint you have a place like the board lab to work with. I’ve been on roughly same obsession timeline as you but learning w/a pure analog shaper. Pros/cons aside, your experience is helping me see things I can’t in pure analog. One thing I do get is same guy does it all so I see it all and communication is different. Anyway, IMO, regardless of how you get it done, highly recommended for anyone who can, at least participate in shaping 1 board, whatever mode, that you will ride. This will change your surf life friends, and you might get obsessed like 🥬😆💰🤘🏽 nice one kale…thanks for doing these🤙🏼

Very cool video Kale, thanks for making content like this, love seeing how the pros do it. Making boards from start to finish as a backyard shaper is an enjoyable and additive hobby but I would kill to have that CNC machine to get the rough shape done. Each board I shape I try something new to see if it suits me. Learn, Shape, Surf, Repeat :)

Great expose of shaping… it really is an art form or a science… or both! Sometimes serendipity works it’s magic. Next time one grumbles over the cost, I remember the six summers it took to shape six boards until a magic one.

Dare I ask where you surfed in SA? I head over from Vicco a couple of times a year but don’t have enough time to go hunting for the best spots 😬. Thanks Kale.

A lot a surfers are aggressive and rude to kooks but you are the polar opposite and love teaching them how to surf. Thanks
