Zelle should be removed on banks if people are vulnerable to scams!! They don’t disclosed any other information to you and when you tried to call zelle, they will say deal with your bank and it’s too late!

It’s more like your fault for giving info up. It’s not like their taking it straight from your phone.

Anyone can fall prey to "social engineering, " no matter how smart you are and how vigilant. The scammers just have to catch you at the right time - when you're tired, distracted or stressed - or they use some slightly unique twist to make it seem legit.

I think the reason this scam is working is because people are used to verifying their information via text message during 2-step verification. Also, the caller ID might look legitimate.

*This can be done in many ways. As we know teachers are generally helpful, considerate, encouraging and forthcoming towards their students, that's how ROMANHACKERS🦠COM has been so helpful and amazing*

Key here is vulnerability. Hackers are looking for vulnerability and how to exploit it.

I got scammed via Zelle but my bank wouldn’t give me my money back - so I had to take that loss but it was a lesson learned for sure

The thing is banks will send a code to your phone and verify over the phone. The best thing to do is only call the bank from the number on your bank card.

How many times does the news tell the public not to give out info. Yet they do it anyway. It is not the banks fault, but these people who don't stop and think.

Yes...prior to Zelle, if someone gained online access to your accounts, they could only immediately send money to external linked accounts that YOU OWN. To send money to themselves, they would have to somehow create a new external account AS YOU, which takes 2-3 days, if they could manage to do it at all.
Those 2-3 days gave you TIME to detect and block the process by contacting your bank BEFORE any money is moved.
Zelle completely removes that safeguard because the Zelle allows the impostor to IMMEDIATELY send money to ANYONE. The only safeguard that Zelle provides is a daily limit set by the bank (currently usually $3, 500 or less, but banks keep raising this amount).
My advice: Keep most of your money in a bank that doesn't offer Zelle (or any similar system), and only keep money that you are willing to lose in your bank that offers Zelle (or any similar system).

I swear, I’m sick of all these sick scammers who steal from a hardworking person who’s worked so hard for that money rather than make a living for themselves. Don’t ever trust a complete stranger when it comes to money. Even if it sounds too good to be true

Online banking isn’t the problem, it’s the people who fall for these phishing scams. People need to be more responsible with their personal information and more diligent in spotting scams. Your bank will never ask for your personal details, that’s just online privacy 101. I’m all for holding banks accountable for the scummy things they do, but this isn’t their fault.

Sometimes we need to put less blame on the companies and more on the people who fall for these things. I understand that not everybody can be tech savvy, or whatever but it doesnt take much to spot a fake interaction. Learn how to spot it or when in doubt take 5 minutes out of your day and just call ur bank and verify before you enter any information. Better to wait on hold than lose your money.
