Learn how to tie the double lineman's loop in this easy to follow video tutorial. The double linemans loop adds another step to the alpine butterfly knot to derive an extra loop. It is a strong double loop knot.

WhyKnot is one of the best knot tying channels on YouTube. Clearly demonstrated, brief and to the point, and without all the fluff.

To other commenters: This is NOT a Spanish bowline - that's very different. I like this double lineman's loop much more, the Spanish bowline is less secure - the size of the loops can change relative to each other when pulling hard on one loop. I also prefer double lineman's loop over the double Alpine knot, seems to use less rope.

Very good going to try this for double anchor to lead line with the long end of this knot, with the two anchor lines tied with sheet bends. Thanks.

Hi mate - not sure if you are still around - wondering if you know whats best for big loads - double alpine or double linesman. I like to use double alpine for doing a double truckers hitch for really big mechanical advantage and was wondering if this knot might be better (double lines man) - I saw that farmers loop which is able to be undone easily, I could do two of those, but wanted your thoughts.

Thank you very much. It is an elegant double loop indeed. I never knew of this loop before. Would you know why it is called Lineman's? On the same subject of the Alpine Butterfly, one can actually tied a Double Alpine Butterfly Loop.

This should work in consensual hanging😊

What actually _is_ this knot? Side by side with a double alpine it looks quite different. Is there another way to tie it perhaps without the single alpine first I wonder? Thanks!

What purpose does it serve? I'm curious how such a knot is used. Is it for 2 separate loads, one on each loop? If it is meant to be doubled, is it actually stronger than the normal Alpine Butterfly?

How does this compare to bowline on a bite? Similar uses?

Step 3 and we've went from California to Tennessee. Lol

Edit... in short I'm lost

Isn’t this a bowline double loop also called the atomic clip?

can the loops be loaded in any direction?

This looks very similar to a double alpine butterfly. (I realize there are like ten names for every knot)

Such a complicated way to tie an alpine butterfly.

Why would you need two loops at the end of a rope?
