I use dental floss to help me gather my fabric! I do a zig zag stitch over the dental floss and the when done, i pull on the dental floss to gather it in!

Consider a gathering foot or ruffler foot

Cool method but I prefer to sew 2 rows of large stiches and that method never fail, even pleats and when attach the bodice is easier, stiches in place
