watering your plants deeply and infrequently trains the roots to grow deeper resulting in stronger root systems and making it harder for surface weeds to thrive

I’m from Northern Ireland, it’s surprising when it’s not raining….

I never comment about ads normally but those hoselinks are amazing. Ive had 2 for 10 years and still as good as the day i got them. They make really good solar lights also.

I live in Minnesota so most of the rain we get, especially in summer, comes from short but intense storms. It's great when it happens! And I water mostly in the afternoon or evening because honestly, that's when I most often have time. I garden mostly in a community garden plot that's on my route to and from work, and if I stop by on my way in I often end up sweaty and with wet shoes, so that's another reason to wait until later in the day. I figure it's better to water at an inopportune time of day than to not water at all 🤷

Please make more of these! My mum put me in charge of watering the garden and I want to do my best!

Watering in the evening should be the go to method in the hot summer months. This way the water has enough time to fully soak into the ground and doesn't get evaporated by the following hot temperatures of the morning.
Water is a prescious resource and it gets more scarce each day, we are lucky to be able to water our plants.

Your tips actually have been immensely helpful to me, and although I'm pretty sure you won't see this, thank you. Over the past three years I've been following you on YouTube and getting tips and tricks that I've adopted, and my lightning lettuce yeilds this year were out of this world, dude. It's totally fine where I live to grow it, so I figured I'd try to save myself some money and produce just a little for me and a couple of people I know with terminal diseases who can really use the relief from the lettuce itself and the smaller hit to their wallets. Well, using some of your techniques I've got so much this year that I've sold it off to a local shop as a one-off boutique strain, and it sold out in three days. Now they want me to get my license for commercial production and wholesale, and grow exclusively for them. You couldn't possibly know just how much I appreciate your tips that I've been able to adopt and adapt for my home region.

I had a little setup with just a few pepper plants and tomatoes and I would let the peppers stress as long as I could before watering them cuz I heard it really helps with the capsaicin factor. Idk if it helped hurt or didn’t matter much but I know I had some awesome peppers 😅

To add to myth #1 i was recently in a gardening school and one of our teachers told us that way back when there was no irrigation farmers used to run outside when it would rain and water the plants as, when it rained the water penetrated into the soil better… pretty interesting.

Our weather is hot and dry. My veggies and flowers always look thirsty. That makes it hard for me to determine “infrequently.” So…I do two layers; two containers and one on top of each other. I flood the top one with plants to let excessive water go down to the bottom one that has composting materials which are good for root development.

I work until late in the evening like 930 so as soon as I get home, I start watering all the containers. I have that are growing all my vegetables. I like to check to see if they need it first usually it’s the tomatoes, cucumbers, and eggplants that need the most and the peppers do just fine. I did set up an irrigation system for this year for my raise beds, but I have not gotten around to tweaking it to make sure it works correctly.

Actually, having the chore of having to separate, it makes me feel like I’m actually doing something instead of just putting stuff in dirt

My lavender loves to be soaked then left alone to just absorb sunshine. Grows into a massive bush that makes almost half the block fragrant

Yeah I heard watering or cutting grass around peaks of the day is the worst because the water will evaporate before it can settle in the ground and the grass is cut open and vulnerable. I heard it's best to do that kind of stuff in thr evening.
