I was in a dilemma about whether to study in the US or stay in my current job as a fresher. The USA has been my dream since childhood, but seeing the world as it is now, I’d rather stay here and grow. Now that I’ve cleared things up and made up my mind, I’ve started investing in stocks and real estate while continuing to learn and grow.
Nowadays, most parents have 1-2 kids on average, and they often encourage their children to pursue the dreams they once had. But following that dream might prevent me from making my parents happy by spending time with them, going on trips, and meeting them, all while dealing with an education loan.

I am happy with my decision, and I hope everyone makes the right decision for themselves and lives a happy life with it.

first being WEALTHY was enough to get into USA.
later you have to be WEALTHY + SKILLED to get into USA.
now, you have to be WEALTHY + SKILLED + LUCKY to get into USA.

I have made a video on the same issue in Canada. 100K is more difficult in Canada than 18lpa in India, unless you are from a really low ranked college in India.

You may be misleading people. $100K straight out of college (which is not the case everywhere) would equate to only $70K take home and given the high rents in almost every city in the US, you will be saving maybe $2K a month at the most, maybe less if you live in an expensive area. You have to do the math and decide if that is worth it especially if you can go to school in India at very less tuition and then start earning whatever you can debt free and rent free.

I am in PA USA - did my MBA from Carnegie Mellon. Only less than 60 percent got job and in the remaining 40 percent most are international. Big companies aren’t even calling for interviews for international considering how much they need to spend for h1B.

Please don’t come to US. I spent 150000 USD for my MBA and applied to 3650 firms for product manager, consulting and business analyst roles. I got only 3 interviews and after I cleared all 3 in the last round - they mailed that they got someone who is not in the need of h1B sponsorship.

And also you are not just competing with new grads but also who got laid off from Google meta and big IT Giants. They are ready to take a big paycut in this market. My friends from Harvard and Wharton struggled a lot to secure internship and finally worked in unpaid one.

the h1b/ gc job situation has always been an issue up until 2018. its more skill based. if we take away the covid period, jobs have always been challenging in the us the increase in the student is not proportional to dedicated students. you walk down any university in texas, its all indians specifically from a particular demographics. skills are required to sustain a job. problem is someone scoring 3.0 gpa and smoking crack dreams of 200k dollar job offer in FAANG. why? because of the perception of US being a high paying job market. if you think you have good skills, pursue a degree, have the communication skills. work hard like any other country and live happily

Heres my 2 cents. If you are in CS this is not the good time. But for other streams that are more market robust, the opportunities and pay are way better than in India.

Brother the 100k salary is for the fresher's who have experience 2-3 year's and are really good at DSA and System design's and it is much easier in india to get straight out of the college than in usa right now

Another thing to note is 150, 000 Indian students who'll probably need H1B is just counting Indian students. The 85, 000 cap is overall. So the total number of H1B applications was 700, 000+ in 2024 from multiple nationalities for 85, 000 slots. This is only going to increase as more and more people move to the U.S. without knowing this. The supply will be more for a long time. Make your decisions carefully.

I have been in the US for 10 years. As a student and then on H1B. My advice would be stay in India for now. There are multiple reasons.

Job market is bad now not just US but everywhere .

Path to become a US citizenship is very narrow for an Indian born. Currently there is a wait time of around of 100+ years.

We have a change of administration. We don’t know rule changes are coming up.

I want to go to the US for a master's degree in education and go for PhD later. What would you suggest?

The analysis is quite logical, but what about if we factor in the stringent time requirements of finding a job? After your OPT starts, I think you have to find a job within 90 days, else you have to leave US. You can increase the total period to 150 days by adding another 60 days by starting your OPT as late as possibe after graduation (2 months). So, the question becomes, is this risk worth taking with loans, even if you graduate from a tier 1 top 50 university?
