Back when I lived in The Netherlands, it was a 20 minute drive to the German border. Shopping was done on Saturday morning, we watched German TV and our vacations were spent in rural areas in southern Germany, in the "lake area", the Black Forest or in Austria.

Yep... great places to visit, but there is so much more. It would took you a few years to see all the beauty of Germany.

...and about the street: I assume it's a shopping street (for pedestrians) and with parking slots for the cars upside on the buildings 🙂... downtown is for people and houses/shops, not for huge car parking on ground level.
Underground parking is another option on many places...

Please don't forget how Germany looked just after WW2.
So it is possible that you see very old buildings and relative new architecture next to eachother.

Why the narrators of these kinds of documents of countries do not delve into the correct pronunciation of the cities is a mystery to me because translator lets you hear the correct pronunciation. I am referring to the place Trier. This is not Tryer but tree-er in dde pronunciation.

I am very sure that many Germans would have a completely different ranking. Churches, castles, rivers, living history, can be found in almost every village. But the tourist program presented here can be done that way.
