itsmejames (the one who posted on the reddit) is actually a bedrock youtuber, he does videos on exploits and dupes; think its pretty cool to see smaller bedrock youtubers get recognised more

"Mojang kills people's pets" was NOT on my 2025 bingo card. lmao

I thought "properly die and despawn" reads as "will be mortal again", not that they'll die immediately

the literal first thing I thought of when I first heard of this is "why don't they just make it so they aren't technically dead rather than making them disappear" surely someone at mojang has the technical know-how to do this

If this glitch is such a big concern, it seems to me the best solution would be setting their "dead" flag back to 0 in the update. That way, they wouldn't be invincible anymore, but people could keep their pets.

If I had to guess, I'd say the reason they care about it at all is that potentially someone could use it to try and troll someone with invincible hostile mobs, but if that were the case removing their "dead" flag would also fix that

Having a pet for over 2 years and then it suddenly disappearing would no joke make me cry

Don’t worry an add on in the marketplace will be up by next week to keep your pets invincible for the low price of $10 :)

NOTE: You can also use the same editor to make the mob invulnerable as there is a data tag for that

❌ change a value from 1 to 0
✅ delete every mob with that value of 1

“Long term health of the Minecraft engine” removing a basically harmless glitch that some people use so they don’t have to see their pets die.

You see, it’s getting healed and hurt simultaneously. But when you reload, it’s dead but is still there. You can’t kill something that’s already dead so it’s technically [TITLE CARD]

Seems like it would be much better to just respawn them with their attributes so that they still exist but can die. They would get backlash, but I think it would be less backlash.

I can't imagine the amount of people who will update without seeing this and realize the mobs they've grown attached to are gone. Just think of the amount of words that will get sent.

I'm a developer, working on my own game at the moment and also working with big datasets at my fulltime job. Bad data can technically cause performance issues, but usually only when the code is actually interfacing with that data or if it's so large that it takes up a lot of memory. Usually, what we would end up doing is passing the data through a migration tool or a data fixer to make it conform in that case, and we usually still keep a copy of the bad data somewhere just in case. We very, very rarely, if ever delete the data outright.

Obviously, I don't know the Bedrock codebase at all, but I have a very, very hard time believing that it is causing any performance issues at all. If anything, they may have a special case set up for it currently, but I doubt it. This reeks of a junior dev asking why there's this special case and trying to remove it without knowing. It would be trivial to migrate the mobs as a one-time action when opening the world for the first time.

Mojang got bitten by an invincible mob and had to game end all of them in order to make sure they didn't have rabies.

Dang... it'd be one thing if they just removed the way to get invincible mobs but retroactively getting rid of cool stuff people have made in the past is a new low for Mojang... er, not new but pretty bad anyways.

Imagine if Mojang retroactively decided that they didn't want players on the Nether roof on Java anymore, so they pushed an update that automatically deletes EVERYTHING above a certain Y level in the Nether and you can't do anything about it. That what this feels like. People TP'ing or punching through the bedrock knew they were exploiting a bug, they know they aren't supposed to be up there, but no one's said anything and how could they ever know the devs would not only change their mind years down the line, but would take the most DRASTIC measure possible to undo it. It's genuninely ludicrous.

I was reading through some of the comments on reddit and the bug tracker and I'm heartbroken. Mob museums people spent months on, memorials for friends and families, shared worlds from lost ones... these mobs were made invincible for a reason. Like geuninely, wtaf Mojang? No better ideas? Really??

Terraria devs: This "hoik" glitch is really cool. Let's keep it in as a feature.
Minecraft devs: *Your dog isn't supposed to be alive, and we plan to rectify that.*
