The drummer is a human metronome. He’s absolutely incredible. Always loved this song

one of the coolest songs of the 70's

The drummer is the world's greatest human metronome. Not once does he alter or change the beat, a no fills, no frills unwavering rhythm. The variety comes in the instrumentation, guitar and keys, as well as backup vocals. GREAT song.

Really cool that you guys did this one. It seems to have escaped the notice of a lot of people who otherwise love the 80s.

Jay & Amber, great one-hit wonder!!!! 1979. That drummer is locked in to the same groove for the whole song!
Lead singer Paul Roberts, guitarists Laurence "Loz" Netto, Mick Dyche, Chris Birkin bassist, drummer Luigi Salvoni and Noel McCalla backing vocals.

Great one-hit wonder! Incredible musical hooks! "Driver's Seat" peaked @ #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1979. Shoulda been #1.

What's amazing is that the drummer holds this perfect 4/4 beat continuously through the whole song!

One of my favorite one hit wonders. This is a shorter version for the video, the original ends with a guitar outro.

Well, it's lesson time. The original formation of the band was in 1973 catching gigs wherever they could but they hadn't gained any notoriety so Paul Robert's (lead singer and founder) dissolved the band and moved to France where he met Luigi Salvoni who had heard a couple of Robert's demos and decided to be Paul's producer and drummer.Salvoni used to be in a band called Moon along with guitarist Loz Netto, who also joined the group. They then added bassist Chris Birkin and guitarist Mike Dyche. Alan Fealdman was the keyboardist. Although the song was recorded in 1978, the record label was going through a distribution change and the album wasn't released until a year later in 1979. The single, "Driver's Seat" used guest keyboardist Keith Miller and guest backup vocalist Noel McCalla, who had been Moon's lead singer. The album Fickle Heart was a success, mainly due to the single "Driver's Seat", however, shortly after the release of the album, the band had fractured with members going off to pursue other interests. The band reformed with new members and moved forward, however, "Fickle Heart' was still their only major success. To this day, Paul is the only member left playing in the group. Now the fun stuff!!! The band was originally going to be called The Tears, but Salvoni suggested Sniff 'n' The Tears because Paul had severe hayfever and was always sniffing due to his runny nose., So Paul was Sniff and The Tears was the band. The 'n' represents the word 'and ', it's not like sniffing the Tears, it's a common mistake. Paul also had a slight speech impediment so people misheard the lyrics "a little jiving on a Saturday night" instead they heard "a little driving " However the lines that follow describe that they had indeed been dancing. The song has nothing to do with driving. According to Paul it's about the fragmented, conflicting thoughts and emotions that might follow up breakup of a relationship. To be in the Driver's Seat is to be in charge, to be in control of your life. Paul was also a great artist, he painted the cover of the album, , which you see on the face of the bass drum. And now you know the rest of the story. This is still one of my all time favorites. Anyway, loved the review, love you guys, take care and stay safe ❤️

Hey yall, I;m 65, I appreciate what both of two do, Both of have have a good ear. I grew up listening to this one along with many others, I am impressed with how both you can pick out all the individual instruments. and your site is my go too. This is one of songs that got better over time.
the song has elements and tempo, that can be traced to the 1950s, 196os and 1970s, Thanks again for memories. Tommy

When I was in middle school my neighbor, who was 3 years older, used to take me with her on the weekends and cruising between south Georgia towns and Tallahassee, Fla. We used to blast this song and sang along! The memories are flooding me this evening. Thank you for pulling songs from our memories. Gives me a huge smile this evening. ❤

This song is one of my all time favorites. That Rythym guitar never let's up. And of course the drums. Oh god.
And this song gets me totally amped up. Like you could raise me from the dead with this one.
