Pre-EU London in the 70's was a surly place with awful service everywhere, tourists being ripped off by restaurants, taxis etc were the norm. Post EU with the big influx of hardworking friendly East Europeans, suddenly you get good efficient service with a smile everywhere, and fortunately this attitude seemed to infect all Londoners making London a far more pleasant place to visit than before. Hopefully this won't change post-Brexit as EU immigrants feel unwelcomed and are much less attracted to migrate to the UK.
