Lets ignore the red herrings here, why has the hydrant been leaking for so long someone established a fish pond under it?

This is not a warm fluffy story. The city ignores their neighborhood so long that they built a community pond out of a leaky fire hydrant. Meanwhile a train car away you have billion dollar sky rises with 30% occupancy.

Thats actually quite sad if you see this for what it is. Why was the fire hydrant dripping for so long with no repair? News doesnt adress this. As its the most important for this news 'story'. Typical.

Every cat in the neighborhood is gonna be there.

Seashells DO NOT belong in any water that freshwater fish live in. Shells in an aquarium with low (acid) pH will start to dissolve, releasing calcium carbonate in the water, which will raise the pH. They'll also release other minerals that were incorporated during their formation. These changes can be harmful to your fish, in addition to ruining the look of the shells.

Fix the leak. Collected $3, 000, upgrade cost of less than $100. Stupid.

Without a filter those fish will be dead in no time. All the food and waste just builds up and starves them of oxygen. Get your fish a filter, people, and stop putting them in bowls/vases!

Goldfish are an invasive species. This doesn’t connect with the city’s watershed but it’s not inconceivable that these fish would end up in it.

Wont the fish freeze and die by November or December?

No one should be vandalizing. Vandalizing it sounds like jealousy, not care for the fish.

My concern would be, where is the water going that's constantly dripping? There may be a sink hole open up somewhere in that neighborhood at some point if they don't fix that leak. 🤔

Think about the water bill...that leaky hydrant is a lesson in how poorly funds are being distributed and used for necessary repairs...at least the neighbors are Keeping it clean in a very clever way

A handful of "creatures" didn't make it... 😩 You could just say fish. 🙄

It is cruel to keep a fish in a shallow little pond, with little or no shade when the full sun is on it. Gold fish are extremely dirty fish, producing a crazy amount of waste so you’ll need a heavy duty filter. I do applaud your efforts to make it a suitable environment. Through that effort you show you care about the fish, so do your best… good luck. I hope you’re making it deeper too.

But what's going to happen when the city comes around and fixes the leaky hydrant?
