Deep below the surface, the ocean floor is full of riches. There’s gold, iron, and lots of other rare, precious metals. What kind of geochemical processes can leave loot all over the seafloor?

Not just because it's rare and super slow forming but also that it's been there from millions of years where extremophiles live, which can make it safe enough to say that the evolution and survival of such extremophiles and other oceanic organisms is likely to be linked with mineral deposits in the ocean, whose extinction might cause serious problems.
