I played this backwards on my turntable back in the 70's, at the beginning the words are "The music is reversable, but time is not. Turn Back, Turn Back, Turn Back..." I've always loved this track. The acoustic guitar riff was used by CBS Sports for a long time in their promos. This song is high end art.

Anyone remember the CBS Sports Spectacular? It was CBS' answer the ABC's Wide World Of Sports, "back in the day". Anyway, the fast Acoustic Guitar section of "Fire On High" was used as the theme song for the CBS show, about the 5:05 point of this video. A fun instrumental.

The break in this song is so sweet they played it twice! It was also was used on television during one of the Winter Olympics. I remember the drum fills were synced to a downhill skier wiping out halfway down the mountain and tumbling for a hundred yards give or take. The trippy/creepy intro section that features the backwards masking draws on 20th century orchestral music, the sort found in movies like Pyscho and 2001: A Space Odyssey, with a dash of Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" thrown in for added effect. There was a brief moral panic about backwards masking in the seventies and Jeff Lynne was flipping the bird at the idea. Led Zeppelin was accused of it on "Stairway to Heaven" and The Beatles too, iirc, probably because The Beatles were among the first rock bands to experiment with tape looping (see "Revolution #9") and the like. The Beach Boys got caught up in that as well for some of its work on Pet Sounds, but also because of their loose connection to Charles Manson. My mom once dragged me and a couple of my rock band friends to see an out of town preacher preaching a sermon railing against rock music. It did her cause worse and mine better because the experience left me highly skeptical of moralists and moral panics in general. Pink Floyd takes on one of the leading moral panickers in the UK in their song "Pigs (Three Different Ones)", but I digress.

I used to go an amusement park that had a scrambler ride inside a huge dome. It was dark, they played this song and projected creepy images all over the walls and ceiling. It was trippy!!!

"Can't Get It Out of My Head" is about the only one of their big songs that you haven't done yet, and it's a good song, so I really think that should be your next ELO song.

The title says it all "Fire🔥On High"🔥🔥🔥 But it could of been, "Fire🔥Of The Most High"🔥 " Fire🔥I'm So High" 🔥 No matter how you slice it...This song is🔥

This took me back Biz. I had this on a 45 back in the day. It was a cool 45, a clear purple plastic instead of standard vinyl. ELO always brings fantastic musicianship to the table. Keep bringing the fabulous reviews Biz!
