Are you doing a Baltic tour, perhaps heading to Tallinn next ? I'd highly suggest taking a cheap ferry to Helsinki from Tallinn, wouldn't mind showing you around if you decide to go that route ;) Oh, you have try the Finnish burger chain Hesburger while you're in the Baltics, if you don't actually make it here, so much better than McDonalds :)

Riga is the size of Wroclaw, so no wonder it kinda reminds you of the Polish city.
And... it's larger than just the span between the two bridges even though it might be green and not much built up along the river banks :-)

Actually, all 3 Baltic countries are Northern Europe to be correct, all 3 capitals are in the UNESCO World Heritage list and are fantastic despite all damage done by 50 years of soviet occupation.
