This song has many layers to it and it is not easy to perform. But these AllStars did a great job in all phases of this song. Deep Purple wrote this song on a tour bus when a reporter asked them how they wrote songs and Ritchie Blackmore gave an example of a riff on an acoustic guitar that consisted of a single "G" riff that he played over and over again. Then the vocalist Ian Gillan improvised the lyrics for it. The band rehersed it, refined it, and performed it that same night. If you don't believe it look it up

The early seventies had some outstanding rock music going on. 1972 when this came out, I was a freshman in high school. Long hair and big bell bottom jeans. Thanks for the flashback and outstanding performance. You know it’s good music when the younger generation 50 years later are jamming to it.

I grew up with Deep Purple and have listened to more covers than I could possibly count. Most of them not very good. But this is excellent and so full of almost tangible energy.
