Milhouse's Dad Destroys Springfield

Hostile Kirkplace stars Kirk Van Houten as he seeks to eliminate Springfield Elementary's teaching of his grandfather's great gazebo disaster (not the first Simpsons episode that hinged its plot on a gazebo, "They Saved Lisa's Brain). Instead, Kirk wants to teach the kids a sanitized version of history that includes only the moments to boost self-esteem, pride in one's town, disregarding the cautionary tales of the past. Will Springfield be forced to repeat the same disasters of the past, or will Marge Simpson have a moderating influence on Kirk, who is angrier than ever.

You’re right about the allegory about how important history is as cautionary tales of making a brighter future and Kirk becomes Springfield’s own dictator. On a positive note it’s a good episode since it parodies what has happened long before I was born in 1996.
